I listened to a guest artist, Trish McKinney at our local art association. She quoted Matisse “It takes courage to be creative”. The more I thought about this the more I realized how true this statement is. It doesn’t matter what type artist, whether a painter, journalist, musician, dancer, chef, etc… It takes courage to step outside the box and dare to try something different.
I often get tired of painting the same thing over and over. It is very refreshing to try a new technique or take an old one and add a different spin. These painting “tangents” can be stressful, but far from boring. The best part is they often open new doors with fun and exciting results. Once the “new” idea has been revealed, it can evolve into something fabulous. This is what makes the journey so fulfilling!
Dare to be creative. What is the worst that could happen???…I guess the worst would be sanding and starting over…and who hasn’t done that?! Weigh that against the possibility of what would be the best that could happen. To me, there is no question as to whether it is worthwhile to venture out into creativity! Oh, and how rewarding when that challenge is met with exciting and pleasing results.
